Starting the Season Off Right with the 2017 CLAEO Banquet

We always like to start the spring/summer season with an exciting bang. This means our annual CLAEO Banquet! In addition to starting the year and getting down to our usual business, CLAEO also took the opportunity to fundraise for the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, a cause that is important for many members.

Unlike previous years, we opted for a more “social” ambiance with “cruiser” tables that made it easy to mingle and chat.

We also decided to switch things up with a buffet-style dinner, which allowed guests to mix and match and pick’n’choose their own meals.

“I’d like some of that”

After dinner, we got down to business by presenting this year’s Algonquin College and Carleton University scholarship winners with their prizes.

After and informative talk on caliper tree shortages by Harry Worsley of Uxbridge Nurseries, we moved on to the fundraising portion of the evening.

Matthew Davis demonstrated his auctioneer skills by auctioning off box seats at the Canadian Tire Centre, graciously donated by Andy McNeely of Thunderbolt Contracting all in support of the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health.

We’re known for our door prizes and amazing auction items. This year did not disappoint. Prizes were enjoyed by many and we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health.

Record Attendance for the 2013 CLAEO Banquet

The 2013 CLAEO banquet took place this year at one of our favourite local banquet halls, Tudor Hall.

Once again, we reached record attendance for the event.

Sponsors of the event this year included:

Geosynthetic Systems

Greely Sand and Gravel

Atlas Block

B & T McFarlane

Central Precast

We’d like to thank the sponsors for their continued support and helping to make our event special and successful!

With another year of record attendance, Social Hour was lively and fun.

As per usual, the dinner at Tudor Hall was fresh and delicious.

After dinner, we recognized the evening’s sponsors and dove right into an informative presentation on erosion control measures by Ron Basaillon of Filtrexx Canada.

This year’s bursary winners were presented cheques by Ian.

Now on to the fun!

Herman Baguss and Jim Holdcroft survived getting roasted by their peers to toast “CLAEO Ambassadorship”

The door prizes are always worth checking out!

And if you’re lucky, someone will extoll the benefits of becoming CLEAO member to you like Chris Villeneuve here explains to Tom Lischer:

Summer is in Full Swing with the 2012 CLAEO BBQ

Each year, the CLAEO Golf BBQ chooses a course for our members to enjoy some golf and great food. Unfortunately, this year we had to opt for “Plan B” since the Thunderbird Golf Course Clubhouse was under construction after suffering a devastating fire.

With construction going on at the time, we moved our Golf Social to the Chesire Cat Pub up the road.

As construction enthusiasts, we couldn’t help but appreciate how nicely the work at Thunderbird was going! With an unknown completion date, we had to offer our hope for the best.

After the golf tournament, we moved up the road to the Chesire Cat Pub, a great little spot with delicious pub food and excellent ambiance. (Update: In 2013, the pub also suffered a devastating fire.)

Celebrating Success with the 2012 CLAEO Banquet

Guests enjoy a fine meal

The 2012 Annual CLAEO Banquet was held on March 28th at Tudor Hall. Over one hundred guests were in attendance.

Fine company, food, and drink were enjoyed by all!

Paver Pete’s Presentation

The evening began with a cocktail hour followed by a spectacular meal by the great staff at Tudor Hall. The seats were packed with record attendance as we moved into a fun and interesting presentation by “Paver Pete” Sponsored by Techo-Bloc. After the presentation, Jim Holdcroft and Ian Rowbotham presented a custom “Paver Pete” Sens jersey.

Thank you, Jerry!

We then took the opportunity to thank last year’s presenter, Jerry Corush with a certificate for a hot air balloon flight as a token of our appreciation for his presentation in 2011, which was a great look at some of the re-development happening in Lansdowne Park.

After the thank-you’s, we moved on to one of the best parts of the evening: celebrating and recognizing young minds by presenting cheques for our bursary winners from Algonquin College, University of Guelph, and Kemptville College. Jim and Ian presented this year’s cheques to tomorrow’s budding commercial landscape contractors.
